Valerie was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Rockdale County High School in 1988. In the fall of 1988 she began her studies at Valdosta State College, earning a bachelors degree in History and Anthropology. While at Valdosta State she was inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society and the Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society. Following her graduation from Valdosta State in 1992 she worked with United Parcel Service for three years before returning to school. She entered the paralegal studies program at Kaiser College in Tallahassee, Florida, earning her paralegal certificate in January 1996.

Upon graduation from Kaiser College Valerie relocated from Valdosta, Georgia to Dallas, Texas where she began her paralegal career. In the fall of 1998 Valerie moved once again to Houston, Texas and has called Houston home since that time.

Valerie enjoys doing mission work. She has traveled to Fond Parisien, Quest, Haiti for a medial mission trip with the Love A Child organization assisting with the distribution of medication to villagers in need of medical attention. She has also completed multiple trips state-side with the Dave Roever Foundation which offers assistance and programs of hope to warriors that have been wounded in the line of duty.
